Homage

Homage 2009 is a tacit reference to the suffering and chastened hardship depicted in Walker Evans’ photographic documentary of the 1920’s Great Depression; as suggested in Stamped Tin Relic (1929), and subsequent nostalgia for worn, broken and bloodied implements.

This series of prints were the product of months spent struggling to find a way to process a photographic image into woodblock for relief printing. Refined use of a rubberised resist and fine-grain sandblasting were the eventual solution, but my conclusion maintains; there are easier ways to get the same effect.
